The ASUS RT-AX86U Pro is the upgraded version of the wildly popular RT-AX86U, and it addresses nearly every complaint about the original while pushing performance even further.
Design and Build
The RT-AX86U Pro maintains ASUS's gaming-oriented aesthetic with a black and red color scheme. Three large antennas extend from the rear, and the overall build feels substantial and well-ventilated. The front features a subtle ROG-inspired pattern with LED indicators.
Despite having only 3 antennas (compared to 6 on cheaper routers), the beamforming technology and high-quality radio components more than compensate.
WiFi Performance
This is where the RT-AX86U Pro truly dominates:
**5 GHz Band:** We measured an incredible 850+ Mbps at close range — the fastest we've seen from any dual-band WiFi 6 router. At 30 feet through walls, it maintained 450-500 Mbps, which is outstanding. The 2.0 GHz Broadcom BCM4912 processor is the key differentiator here.
**2.4 GHz Band:** Solid at 120-140 Mbps close range, 60-80 Mbps at distance. Better than most competitors.
**Gaming Performance:** The real star is latency. In our gaming tests, the RT-AX86U Pro consistently delivered ping times 15-20% lower than competing routers.
